RAWALPINDI: The judiciary must decide cases according to the wishes of the public because the nation got them restored after a hard struggle, and if courts did not do so, the people would become disenchanted, said President of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), Qazi Anwar, in Rawalpindi District Court to celebrate the ‘Independence of the Judiciary Day’ here on Tuesday.
A large number of lawyers from all over the country attended. Qazi Anwar said, “I am glad to recall the day when a dictator called Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry to the Army House on March 9, 2007, to force him to bow to his wishes. But the brave chief justice plainly refused to submit to the will of the dictator.”
He said that throughout the country, Rawalpindi District Bar Association (RDBA) was the first to raise voice against the dictator, former president Pervez Musharraf, and took to the streets.
He said, “I am very proud to address the RDBA because they challenged the dictator who was firmly settled in the Army House at that time. No doubt, the dictator created many hardships for the CJ during the struggle for independent judiciary but the bold and fearless lawyers marched on and never bowed down.”
