BRADFORD: The Jammu Kashmir Self Determination Movement Europe (AJK SDME) organised an events here in Bradford to celebrate the International Women’s Day and to highlight the plight of women in Kashmir who have suffered for over 60 years.
The meeting was attended by Terry Rooney MP for Bradford, Linda McAvan European Member of Parliament, Deputy Lord Mayor Councillor Naveeda Ikram, Prospective Parliamentary candidate for Keighley Jane Thomas, Mohammed Azam Secretary General Jammu Kashmir Self Determination Movement Europe, Salar Mumtaz Chishti and Sardar Abdul Rehman Chairman of the Movement, there were a number of other Councillors and prospective candidates in attendance. 0
Terry Rooney MP said “Kashmir People must be given their right of self-determination, I will continue to support this just cause” “I believe the issue can only be resolved through dialogue which must include the Kashmiris, these talks will always fail until the Kashmiris are included in them” “Kashmiri women have suffered and have sacrificed everything this suffering must stop” 0
Linda McAvan said “On this international womens day we must pay tribute to the Women and young girls who have suffered in Kashmir, they are fighting for their rights. 0
Their suffering must not be allowed to go on, the Kashmiri women have suffered for far too long” “We are supporting the Movement in the European Parliament and are in the process of organising a conference which we hope will help” “The Labour party has and will continue to support the Kashmiri People” “It is heartening to see so many women here to support this cause, women have always played an active role in all struggles, and you must continue to do this we are with you”. 0
Jane Thomas said “I will work with the Movement; the Human Rights violations must stop, the suffering cannot be allowed to go on” “I must commend the work of JKSDM who are doing a great deal to raise the issue of Kashmir” “I will also raise this issue in Keighley and do what I can” 0
Deputy Lord Mayor Councillor Naveeda Ikram said “We know in any disputed area it is the women and children who suffer, in Kashmir the women young and old have suffered at the hands of the Indian forces, who are allowed to get away with everything” 0
The Jammu Kashmir Self Determination Movement Europe, a lobby group established in January 2009 to raise the issue of Kashmir and to inform the international community that this dispute remains unresolved and is a flashpoint between two nuclear powers. 0
Its Secretary General Mohammed Azam said “We must remind the international community at every opportunity we get about the Kashmir issue, we have a programme of events in the coming weeks, and the community must play an active role in the coming elections” “You must support the candidates who support the Kashmir Cause; you must register to vote and be active in the Political field” 0
Sardar Abdul Rehman said “Kashmir issue must be resolved in line with the United Nations Resolutions; the international community must take action it cannot allow these atrocities to continue” 0
The Jammu Kashmir self Determination Movement has organised a conference in the House of Commons on 23rd March 2010 which will be attended by Raja ZulQurnain Khan President of Kashmir. 0
ON 24th March a Conference is organised in the European Parliament Brussels and on the 25th March a conference is organised in The Hague. 0
Mumtaz Chishti said “Kashmiri people will not rest until we get our right of self determination”. 0
